Services:
The Street Department routinely combines forces with Water and Sanitary Sewer Utility Departments in the City to form the Public Works Department. The Street Department is responsible for maintaining the City’s streets, sidewalks, curbs, storm sewers and trees in the City.
Duties:
- Maintain streets, alleys and residential sidewalks
- Maintain storm water drainage (culverts, ditch lines and street drains)
- Street & traffic signs
- Traffic lights
- Street sweeping
- Snow plowing, sanding, and snow removal
- Trim trees and brush to keep streets and sidewalks clear of obstructions
- Repair potholes, crack sealing and line marking
- Mow city-owned land and problem areas

- Street Cleaning (one of our staff members works for the Stormwater Utility during Summer months)
- Repair and Maintenance of Storm Sewer System for the Stormwater Utility
- Snow Plowing, Sanding, and Snow Removal of Streets, Alleys, Bridges, and Parking Lots
- Spring and Fall Leaf and Brush Pick-up
- Maintenance of Limbs/Branches within the Public Right-of-Way
- Street maintenance including Pothole Patching and Crack Sealing
- Sidewalk Repair and Construction
- Curb and Gutter Repair and Construction
- Enforcement of Weed Control Ordinance
- Mowing of City Owned Property (excluding Parks)
- Maintenance of Ditch Lines to Enhance City Storm Sewer Drainage
- Oversee Garbage and Recycling Services
- Oversee Bridge Maintenance Program
- Vehicle Maintenance for All City Owned Equipment
- Assist Water Department During Water Breaks and Thawing Season
- Assist Police and Fire Departments During Times of Crisis

Waste and Recycling Collection Information:
Republic Services of Northern Wisconsin was contracted by the City of Rhinelander to complete waste and recycling collection services for residential dwelling units in the City. Based on the designated service areas indicated in Service Map, waste is collected on a weekly schedule, and recyclables are collected on a biweekly schedule. Periodically bulk waste pickup will be completed as scheduled for a centralized location. The following is specific information relating to these services and schedules:
